Dorm Life

Initially, boundaries and behavioral limits are foreign to many of our students. For that reason, our dormitories are highly-structured, allowing for positive peer support to help fellow students gain a sense of boundaries and the ability to accept the consequences of their actions.

Students have the power and freedom to involve themselves in the dormitory that best serves their needs at a particular time. These dorms offer students varying degrees of structure and provide steppingstones for each child's journey.

We have a zero-tolerance policy regarding drugs, alcohol, tobacco and sexual activity.

At Sarasota Community School, we accept kids for who they are. Kids often say this is the first place they ever really felt accepted. No cliques…no hazing…everybody is a part of…status is based on behavior.

The adults at Sarasota Community School are not just staff, they are community. They role model the same positive behavior that is expected of the students. It is a family model that fosters open, honest relationships. Several of our dorm parents are graduates of the school and bring a unique understanding of the students' perspective to their roles.
